Rujuta Mandelia is a professor by profession. Rujuta loves teaching and is thrilled to be part of Gurukul as a co-founder and language liaison. She envisions Gurukul to be an integral part of our South Asian community that thrives on creating a cultural foundation and a philosophical grounding for our children as well as motivate our children to be proud of their roots and upbringing. In doing so, Rujuta focuses on building a cultural and community-based identity that is diverse, accepting and fundamentally rooted in Gandhiji’s ideology – “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
Abhilasha Gupta is a Molecular and Cellular Biologist. Although India born, Abhilasha has lived in all the Western countries including UK, Canada and Australia. Having spent more than thirty years outside of India, Abhilasha understands the differences and the “pull and push” of both western and eastern cultures and the necessity to embrace and bridge the both in order to reach higher personal growth in mind and spirit. She also believes that in order to know oneself completely it is paramount to connect, learn and be enriched with one’s ancestral roots. Living abroad, Abhilasha learned to speak, read and write in Hindi, studied Mohiniattam for ten years under the guidance of Smt. Tara Rajkumar, learned yoga, meditation and pranayam by attending discourses by Siddha Yoga, Art of Living and Chinmaya Mission. As a co-founder of Gurukul, Abhilasha’s envisions a spiritual- and philosophical-based program that will culturally-enrich our children and together they shall grow into beings that are proud of themselves and their heritage.
Hanita Patel is an American born Indian who has lived in Pennsylvania her entire life. She is a medical technologist and accountant. She has taught culture class previously at the Bhartiya Temple and teaches the Culture 8-9 year old class in Gurukul. “Thank you for allowing me to teach your children. I have learned so much about Indian culture by becoming a teacher. I look forward to helping all Gurukul children develop a sense of Pride in our Indian heritage.”
