“I wish our children would speak in Hindi…”
“…I want that our children grow up with the same values and traditions as we did…”
“…I want that they grow with confidence and be proud of who they are – their Indian and American heritage…”
“…Growing up outside of India my whole life, I was faced with many different challenges of eastern and western cultures, I want to teach our children how to bridge the two cultures …”
“I want a community for our kids where …”
… and so after many similar conversations, the concept of Gurukul Academy was born on June 22nd, 2014, during an 8 year old’s birthday dinner amongst four friends. Manish and Rujuta discussed their dream of starting an Indian school for their kids with Abhilasha and Abhinav who shared the same vision. Manish & Rujuta came to USA in 1997, whilst Abhinav and Abhilasha had grown up outside of India as early as 1979.
Often the four friends discussed what challenges they faced and how they overcame them, how their parents instilled the Indian culture and values in them. Thus, many passionate brainstorming and planning sessions later, their dream of Gurukul Academy was executed and registered as a non-profit organization that very summer of 2014. Now, here is Gurukul, enthusiastic, excited, focused and dedicated to their conversations, sentiments and emotions.
